RUBAVU, rubavu

rubavu.jpgMusanze District Welcome to the Costa del Kivu! The largest port on the Rwandan shores of Lake Kivu, RUBAVU (Formerly Gisenyi).
Gisenyi is the Capital of the Rubavu District, an attractive ritzy resort town situated about 110Km north of Karongi by road, 60Km west of the Gorilla-tracking base of Musanze/Ruhengeri. It's a 160Km journey to Kigali on good roads. This combination of good tourists facilities- arguably the best of any urban centre outside the capital and a seductive tropical ambience make Rubavu the idea place to chill out and relax. The views over Lake Kivu and Nyiragongo Volcano (3,470Km) to the northwest are magnificent. Split into an upper and a lower town, Rubavu today still has an excellent climate, for by virtue of its 1,500 meters above the sea level all enervating heat is banished.
The natural coolness prevalent in consequence makes a visit of this 388.3km2 area a very agreeable experience as written by Due Mecklenburg a century ago. Rubavu is the fifth-largest town in Rwanda, with a population of 110,000 and its upper town is backdropped by the Virunga volcanoes, and particularly for the lower town which is comprises a leafy and spacious laid out a conglomeration of Banks, government offices, old colonial homesteads and uppermarket hotels separated from the lakeshore by a neat park where children dive and swim, and courting couples walk hand-in-hand below shady trees. Indeed, with its red sandy beaches, mismatched architectural styles and shady palm-lined avenues, this part of Rubavu has captivating ennui of a slightly down-at-heel tropical beach resort, except that the relatively high altitude means it has a mire refreshing climate.
With a population of 40,3662(2014) Altogether more lively is the upper town, which consists of an undistinguished grid of busy roads centered around the central market but has some useful facilities for travellers, including the main bus station and several supermarkets, internet cafes, forex bureau.

Gisenyi is a town on the north shore of Lake Kivu, in northwestern Rwanda's Rubavu district. Beach resorts line the lake's sandy waterfront, and kayaks ply its clear waters. From Gisenyi, the long-distance, lakeside Congo Nile Trail winds through hilly terrain, passing villages, waterfalls and tea and coffee plantations. East of town, Gishwati-Mukura National Park's rainforests are home to chimpanzees and monkeys and of course mountain hiking.

It is a very fascinating place to visit and attracts so many people more so the locals who believe that this water has got various healing powers and all you need to do is take a birth in this water.
With a local guide, you will get you to the hot springs where there are small pools of boiling water which is oozing out of the ground. But just like the case is with all the other hot springs, it is still not really clear how this water happens to be an healing agent but it is believed that this hot water oozing out is hot because of the fact that it running through a hot ground which is as a result of the high temperature caused by the Congo's active volcanoes mountains located so close by.

You can visit place any time you are in Gisenyi between the hours of 8am to 6pm to relax, swim, unwind may be and you can also get a massage from one of the trained locals. There is the hottest spot where you can boil eggs as an experiment; lots of people believe that preparing food from this water is safer than it is done at home.

The Bugarama hot springs

This place is a great detour for during a Rwanda cultural tour. Bugarama hot spring is also known as Nyakabuye hot spring lying at the bottom of a limestone quarry 60km from Cyangugu. There are usually so many local swimming in the clear water and if you are camping in a close by area, you can always go swimming in the night after all the locals have returned to their homes. This is also an amazing and really spectacular that you can visit any time you are on a Rwanda tour.
Swimming in this water has real benefits for example; this water was scientifically proved to heal muscle disorders. It contains minerals like potassium chloride, sodium calcium sulphate, chloride, lithium sulphate, and phosphate, there is magnesium chloride and a lot more in varying quantities and all these contain a lot of medicinal values that the bodies need.
The Mashyuza hot springs also called the Mashuza hot springs are in the western province. People go there for the same experience and fun as they get from the other hot springs.
