MUSANZE

Musanze District Musanze is a city and capital of Musanze District in the Northern Province of Rwanda. Some sources now refer to the city itself as Musanze, after the district in which it lies and this name was given to this beautiful Gorilla home place since 2005 where it was named from old Ruhengeli town. Musanze is occupies an area of 530,2km2 where 60km2 is the Park National Park and 28km2 is an area of one of the Twin-lake (Ruhondo)
This has to do with the adopted policy of renaming Rwanda cities, which was done to eliminate terrible memories of the past and to install new administrational infrastructure in the country. Ruhengeri (Musanze) lies near the twin lakes of Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo and is the gateway city to Volcanoes National Park and the famous mountain gorillas in the north-western part of the country.
